Computer Problems

A small story. We have about a million different programs here at work. It’s crazy. You can be in Program A1 and have to open Program A2 to print the stuff in Program A1. Make sense to you? No? Me neither.

Anyhoo… To make this simple, there’s program A and program B. I can go into program B and enroll someone in Medicaid. It’s a very basic, basic program. The information is just a big jumble and you have to know what you are looking for. I can go into program A and there are various options, most of which will give you information from program B or put information in program B. It gives it to you in a much easier to read format. Or you can tell it to do something in program B, it puts all the info in there for you. There is also an option to go into program B. It opens a new window and everything. Program A is a little more user friendly.

So, I can get into program A and I can get into program B, but I cannot get into program B from program A. This makes no sense to me. I told my supervisor so she could get me the needed assistance. I was sitting in her office while she was on the phone with the IT people. (Oh wait a minute, I meant the backup IT PERSON. The 1 IT PERSON, he’s off on Mondays. So she is the 1 backup. Note to self: don't have computer problems on Monday) Supervisor was talking about “the bridge” between the programs and how they aren’t communicating or something like that. The only thing I could think of while she was explaining this problem was…

THE MODEM IS NOT CONNECTED TO THE MAINFRAME.

It’s all I could do not to yell it out!!! And I considered telling her the story, but I thought no, she may not get it. And that would be bad.

What would make it worse is if she thought the modem SHOULD BE CONNECTED to the mainframe....then you're in REAL trouble!

Ok....I wasn't gonig to ask, b/c you haven't told me already, but you're gonna have to spill the beans on the mainframe?????? You can mention it once without 'splainin, but twice!!!!!!
