Christmas Banquet

Tonight we had our Christmas Banquet at church. First we ate dinner, then a short message from Pastor and then Santa came out. He read the story of Jesus’ birth and handed out small presents to the kids. It was fun.

The fellowship hall was beautiful. There were numerous trees with white lights and red bows on top. The big 12 ft tree at the front of the building was decorated with gold and red balls. And the lights were dimmed for ambiance.

As for the food… The church provided turkey, ham, and dressing (remember the difference between stuffing and dressing). Everyone brought a side dish and a dessert. I made broccoli casserole. Yummy. I don’t make it very often, but it was good. It had cheese in it. You can’t go wrong with cheese. My dessert was a twist on éclair cake. You know, the dessert with graham crackers and pudding? Well, I used chocolate graham crackers and mint flavored pudding and topped it with milk chocolate frosting. Then a grated some of those peppermint Hershey’s kisses on top. It was sooooo good.

The food was set up buffet style. And guess what! My table got to go first. It just doesn’t get any better than that. In a group of 200 – 250, you don’t want to be at the end of the line. The only problem that I face in this buffet style line is that there are several different choices for dish. 3 or 4 different macaroni and cheeses. I usually try to get the one that looks like it’s the farthest thing from being made fresh from a box. But then you move a few feet down the table and there’s another mac and cheese, better than all the previous ones. Now you’ve already chosen the best of the worst and then you come to the best of the best. It makes me mad. Why don’t they put all of one thing together, so you can know you are picking what you really want.

Heck, I don’t even like my food to touch on the place. And I have to eat all of one thing before moving on to the next. And I like to eat all my sides first and my meat last. And I usually get a roll, but I never eat it. I guess that’s why they don’t ask freaks like me to organize the food.

I'm a freak with food too! Don't let things touch, eat my sides first, then meat!!! We are like long lost twins! Too funny!
