Deer Haven

The alarm went off at 4:30 this morning. Time to get ready to go to the deer woods AKA Deer Haven. Michael hit snooze, so we went back to sleep until almost 6:00. Oops. When we finally got up, I put on my long underwear top and bottoms, sweatpants, camo pants, sweatshirt, insulated camo bibs and fleece lined camo coat. Gavin also put on his many layers of clothes. I don’t know what the temperature was, but it was cold!!! Gavin grabbed his 243 and we were on the road.

About 40 minutes later, we arrived at Deer Haven. The gate to get onto the property was locked, of course. So we parked on the road and walked in. We hiked uphill through the brush until we came to our hunting spot. We sat on rocks for about 30 minutes until my tail couldn’t take it anymore. Michael and Gavin took their place at the base of one tree while I took out my seat cushion and took my seat at the base of another. Before long, I decided to use my cushion as a pillow and stretched out on the ground and took about an hour nap.

When I woke up, it was almost lunch time, so we decided to head out for lunch. Michael’s dad caught up with us and we went to town for a nice hot lunch. We headed back to Michael’s parents’ house for a bathroom break and then back to Deer Haven.

This time Gavin was with Pa Paw and Michael and I sat on some more rocks. After a short time, it started to sleet on us. But I still didn’t get cold. After a couple more hours, we finally decided to call it quits. I didn’t see a single deer!!! Gavin saw a dog that he thought was a wild boar. Oh well. That’s how it goes in the deer woods. Maybe we’ll have better luck next time.
